Behind North Studio.
The story, approach and principles behind my work.
I started North Studio with a simple aim — to make architectural design more straightforward, more collaborative, and more practical for the people I work with; all the while doing a job I am passionate about.

I’m Tim, an architectural designer based in Poole, helping homeowners and small developers make confident decisions about their projects — whether that’s through early feasibility studies, planning drawings, or detailed technical design to construction site support.

Although I run North Studio independently, I regularly collaborate with a network of trusted partners — contractors, structural engineers, planning consultants, interior designers; the list goes on and on!

So every stage of a project gets the right input when it’s needed.
The Philosophy.
Design Approach - Every project is different, but the principles stay the same — thoughtful design, practical solutions, and clear communication throughout.
Site - Good design starts with understanding where it sits — the light, the views, the orientation and the wider context. Every project begins with a sense of place.
Brief - A strong design comes from a clear brief. I work closely with clients to define priorities early on so that every decision that follows makes sense.
Materials - Favouring a simple, refined palette — often traditional in origin but used in a contemporary way. Honest materials and good detailing make spaces that last.
Sustainability - I believe design should be efficient and long-lasting, not driven by trends. Passive design principles, orientation, and sensible technology choices play a big part.
Built Environment - Architecture should feel good to live in — practical, comfortable and quietly characterful. For me, that’s where design succeeds.
Dialogue - Design works best as a conversation. I keep communication open from start to finish, coordinating with clients, engineers and builders to keep everything aligned.
An Approach Built on Clarity.
Every project starts with clarity — clear communication, clear drawings, and a clear understanding of how a space will look, feel, and function.

I use BIM modelling and realistic visuals to help clients explore design ideas early, testing options before time or budget are wasted. It’s a process built on transparency and collaboration, not guesswork.
Why It Matters.
For me, good design isn’t about grand statements — it’s about improving how people live.
That means thoughtful layouts, practical detailing, and materials that age well.

I run North Studio as a focused, independent practice so I can stay close to each project — from first sketch to final details — keeping decisions clear and communication direct.
Lets Talk.
If you’re starting to think about extending, reconfiguring, or building something new, I can help you test ideas early with a clear, feasibility-led approach. Then once you're happy we can get the work started to realising that vision.
